Plot Inconsistencies in The Teacher Audiobook (Spoilers Ahead)

One of the biggest plot holes in The Teacher audiobook comes with the final reveal — that Jay is actually Hudson. This twist raises several questions. Throughout the story, it's made very clear that Eve disapproves of Nate’s inappropriate relationship with a teenager. Despite Addie being 16 and technically above the age of consent, Eve’s strong reaction suggests she holds firm moral boundaries.
That’s why the ending feels inconsistent. When the author reveals that Eve herself was involved with Hudson — a teenager — it undermines her earlier stance. If Hudson is the same age or slightly older than Addie, how did Eve not realize she was romantically involved with someone likely ten years younger, and potentially a student at her own school?
The most confusing part is that Eve, a teacher at Caseham High, didn’t recognize that Hudson (aka Jay) was also a student. It stretches believability and raises doubts about the internal logic of the plot.
