Short Review :
Another psychological thriller by Freida McFadden. This is the first audiobook by Freida McFadden that I have gotten my ears on and also the first of the series The Housemaid Books followed by The Housemaid's Secrets and The Housemaid Is Watching. However, I don't think the parts are related at all so you could listen in any order but I'd recommend to follow it. I found the first part of the story to be a bit slow. I loved the narration done by Lauryn Allman which totally vibed with the plot in terms of both pace and tone. I'd recommend this only if you can handle a slightly dark plot.
Long Review:
The narrative is divided into two parts, Part 1 and Part 2 .The story begins with Millie being questioned by the police investigating a murder and then runs in the flashback. Millie is out on parole and looking for a job which seems to be difficult to get as nobody wants to hire a parolee . After spending a few nights in her car, having no other place to sleep, she gets an interview call by a certain Nina Winchester who apparently needs both a housekeeper and a babysitter . Nina seems like a nice person, with a daughter, Cecelia, and a loving husband , Andrew Winchester. Since Millie is desperate to get a job, any job, she obviously says yes but after spending a few days with the weird family she discerns that this family's secrets are even darker than her own.
Part 1 of the story just builds up to all the twists and turns and the other part is where all the fun begins. I think I completed the other half of the story in half the time as part1. Like I mentioned in the short review above , I absolutely love the narration done by Lauryn Allman. The pace is neither too slow nor too fast. You should totally read this one if you are a fan of psychological thrillers.
