Short Review :
Another fantastic fantasy novel that I came across this week. The events unfold at a medium pace as they should. I found this fantasy filled with light humor that kept me engaged. A must-listen for fantasy lovers.
Long Review :
I'm very skeptical when it comes to fantasy, but when I started listening to this audiobook, I couldn't stop. The protagonist of the story is a very rich lawyer, Wallace Price. Wallace thinks he doesn't need anybody because he is a manager at a law firm and is very good at his job. One day he simply wakes up and finds himself in a church. He recognizes several people there, including his ex-wife and his partners at the law firm. He is taken aback when he realizes that he is attending his own funeral. Of course, he wants to go back, get his life back, but is that possible?
Although he comes across as a *jerk* in the beginning, later, however, as the story progresses and he realizes the kind of a person he has been to his wife, to his friends and to his employees, he regrets it all. With the help of Hugo , owner of a peculiar tea shop , he figures out the kind of person he really wants to be. The author has rightly infused humor at all the right places in the narrative to keep it light. One of the phrases mentioned by the author in the plot that I really liked and that perfectly summarizes it all is: 'Hilarious, haunting, and kind, Under the Whispering Door is an uplifting story about a life spent at the office and a death spent building a home.'
