In The Quantum Chain, Joseph Bridgeman is striving to regain some normalcy in his life. He spends quality time with his parents and looks after his sister Amy, but his life takes a turn when Gabrielle calls, asking for his help to secure an antique, which also happens to be a focus object. As a result, his involvement in securing the object leads him to become the traveler for the mission linked to it.
The mission takes Joseph to China in the year 743, marking the furthest he has ever traveled. Undoubtedly, his time in China is nothing short of a thrilling roller coaster ride. Afterward, Joseph tries to rebuild his relationship with Alexia by taking her to dinner. Although their evening goes well, Alexia remains cautious, taking things slow due to the significant personality change she’s witnessed in him. Nevertheless, Joseph is determined to win her back, but it won’t be easy.
The second part of the story escalates with Joseph embarking on a new, high-stakes mission. The situation becomes more intense, but the author skillfully lightens the mood with humor at just the right moments. A welcome digression into Vinny’s life offers an interesting break from the tension, providing a fresh perspective.
Unlike previous installments that focused on one mission, The Quantum Chain introduces two distinct missions, with the second proving far more critical than the first. As always, Nick Jones keeps readers hooked by adding new layers of fantasy and intrigue with each book. While I thoroughly enjoyed this part of the series, one plot inconsistency did stand out to me.
