Short Review:
The House in the Cerulean Sea is my first fantasy novel. I must say that I did not like it initially, as I found the pace of the first half to be a little slow and could predict what the build up might be about but when Linus Baker , a man who works for child protection services, finally arrives at the infamous island where he meets six kids who are deemed unfit to live in the outside world , to write a report that will decide the fate of these six kids. It's a light listen with moderate humor, which I found to be one of the best parts of the book.
The ending is very well written.

Six kids—Talia, a garden gnome; Theodore, a wyvern; Phee, a sprite; Sal, a boy who can transform into a dog; and Chauncey and Lucy—live on an island far from normal lands because others deemed them unfit and unsafe to live with common people. Their caretaker, Arthur Parnassus, looks after them. Linus Baker, the protagonist who works for an organization responsible for the welfare of such children, receives a summons from top management to visit the island and provide a report with his final opinion on whether the orphanage should continue to operate.
I found the first half a little slow until Linus finally arrives on the island. Linus thinks of it as business as usual and is stringent about not getting attached to the kids as always. While Chauncey is absolutely adorable and all he wants in his life is to become a bellhop , I love Talia and Lucy because they bring all the humor in the story.
