Short Review :
Never Lie is another psychological thriller with a good plot but not so amazing an ending. But not all stories have happy endings, do they? Although the narrator did their part well, I found the narration to be a little weak on the author's part. I would have enjoyed the twists more if the author had chosen to use third-person narration instead of first-person.
Long Review :
I judge a thriller as worth my while only when I can’t predict who the victim or the culprit truly is. This psychological thriller delivered just that. Tricia and Ethan, married for six months, are searching for a house. They find themselves at a mansion that once belonged to the renowned psychiatrist Dr. Adrienne Hal, who went missing three years ago. As they explore, they uncover secrets about Adrienne that could hold clues to her disappearance.
The author skillfully maintained the suspense by uncovering the backstories of all the characters, though at times the coincidences felt too contrived to be believable. I found it to be a quick read, and Leslie Howard delivered the narration quite well. This was the second psychological thriller I experienced after The Housemaid, and I must say the author successfully avoided a similar narrative style. If you have read other novels in this genre by Frieda McFadden, I’m confident you’ll find this one distinct. Even if you’re new to this genre, you should definitely give Never Lie a try.
