Short Review :
I actually mistook Reminders of Him for a thriller when I purchased this audiobook, as I'm not a fan of romance, but this one surprised me. I considered dropping it right after chapter Two, but I was intrigued enough by the plot to keep going. It's not too long nor too short and the narration is also perfect.
Long Review:
Reminders of Him is about remorse, guilt, love and a mother longing to reunite with her 4-year-old daughter. Kenna is only 26 years old when she is released after serving her sentence and makes an attempt at rebuilding her life. She has a 4-year-old daughter who was taken away from her as soon as she was born, but now that Kenna is out, she's looking for her. While she's at it, she meets Ledger, and it appears to be love at first sight. This is the only part of the narrative that I feel skeptical about. I mean, does that really happen? Can you truly feel a connection with someone by just looking at them for the first time. But that's my opinion, and all the readers are entitled to their own.
However, I really liked the plot, the series of events and also the narration with regards to pace and conveyance of emotions and thoughts of the characters. I consider myself indifferent towards all the sentiments of the characters as in I don't feel angry or upset about anything that is conveyed through the story but this one actually made my eyes wet by the end. All the romance lovers will find it satisfying as the plot is more about a mother desperate to get a single look of her daughter and less about actual romance but I wouldn't say that the author has left out the romance part of it entirely—it's adequate.
